Favourite Story Arcs

There have been a number of story arcs over the course of Sequential Art's 600+ pages. And everyone has a favourite. So what about a discussion thread? Why do you like a particular story and so on. Jack, you're free to join in this one if you have a fave.

For me, either two arcs Vanity has appeared in so far, not least because she's a fave of mine, but simply because she puts Kat in situations where they gel together like a buddy cop style narrative. Which one's the lead and which one's the sidekick of the two? It seems to change.

When I started reading SA I found it enjoyable because...

... it didn't had story arcs.

At least untill Jack the Denizen showed up.

I read webcomics, or webstrips, to be precise, mostly for the comedy value, not long-running story arcs nor action-adventure bravado. For example I hated Quinten arc, because for me it was forced homage, intentional or not, to Portal and laboratory-squeaky-clean science fiction wich I highly dislike. My personal opinion.

My favourite SA strips are those, where I can see daily life of the SA characters. How they cope with normal stuff not the sci-fi or paranormal ones.

I think story arcs are well deserved at times. Most of the time it's self contained single strip gags, so bringing an overarcing story in helps sometimes.

That said I hates the whole Jack the denizen thing. Didn't like him much. Glad he ate death laser at the end of it.

I'm going to try and be a positive critic of Jack's work here. JJ don't take anything I say wrong, I'm still a faithful fan.

That being said..

Jacks story arcs have been fine. The story of Quintin Labs was science-fiction, filled in Scarlet's background and gave us the rest of the Squirrel Girls, the current story arc has the character's facing the occult, and Jack the Denizen is a strange merging of the two genres. However, Art's first confrontation with Hilary was funny, and provided us with Kat's nemesis and the Chrome Thong of Stealth teased us with the sexual tension between Art and Kat. http://www.collectedcurios.com/sequentialart.php?s=566

These shorter arcs are some of the best.

So in my humble opinion, I think Jacks longer arcs are fine, but the rate at which the panels are dropped hurts him. Jack would do best to develop and draw the longer story arcs completely from beginning to end before publishing them so that the whole story can be told more quickly (say 3-5 drops a week). This would provide him with a "break" from SA since all the work is done ahead and provide his following with their "fix".

That being said, read a few more comics ahead of that link. Specifically the one after she tries to draw Art in 300.

I LIKE arcs, as long as the artist finishes them. It gives outlook into character's backgrounds and shows them develop.

I liked the occasional James Bond/soviet-like vibe of Denizen Arc, but I felt like the action should take place in the Pipingrad. I'd like to see this mythical place.

Some people like the one-shots, othere like the longer stories.

Quinten then Denizen. Quinten mainly because of moderate revalation of Scarlet's past, and adding her sisters to the mix. Denizen I love because I can thoroughly envision it as a cinematic sequence, and it's Crazy-AWESOME!

the realm of lorecraft all of them including the kat in the saucy outfit, the comic con arc (helga bewb seat ^^) and finally the muto joose arc lol that iron squirral reminded me of bubblegum crisis lol.

I love when there are plenty of short stories and also big stories in web-strip series
