Son Goku vs. Vegeta (from Dragon Ball Z) - because former enemies became friends yet never stopped to clash with themselves over "who is better" fact. Which forced them to grow stronger.

Spike vs. Vicious (from Cowboy Bebop) - because former friends, gun-ho, brothers in arms turned into enemies because of a woman and hunger for power. The outcome of this rivalary is simply beautiful.

And that's about all that I can think of for now.
