Been called a weaboo or... whatever it's called. Hell I learned Japanese (Well as crapily as I could) from my friend Tomoko who was an exhange student and her family who took us in when my troop of friends came with her when she returned to Itabashi. So it rather pisses me off when I do use my self admitted piss poor japanese and someone bitches that I am trying too hard to be a weaboo. Heck her mother Saiko is the reason for my name. She couldn't remember how to say big or tall so she said I was Great (Me being 6'6" or around 200cm and her at 152cm I was a giant and the largest of our group). I was already going by Hibiki then so they appreciated as it is much easier to say than my real name and we had four of us with similar sounding names. So Tomoko kept on laughing at me and calling me The Great Hibiki-san, we so corrupted her in America, I swear. It stuck.

So yeah know people know where I got my name (It didn't help a love tester machine in the airport in houston labeled me "The Great!" either. Just cenemnted it further. lol!) and what grinds my gears. Well bringing them up made me think of something else.

Also people who are just either over the top about the earthquake or indifferent just piss me off.

In fact two days ago I finally recived an email from Tomoko, her imediate family is all right, but she lost an aunt who lived in Natori just south of Sendai. I'm sad for her but at the same time I am glad my friend and her family are okay. But I'm not freaking out over all of it. I admit that it affected me more than say 9/11 but frankly I actually know people in the earthquake while I know no one who were in or had someone in the attack. I'm odd like that.

When you know you are using piss poor Japanese still being labeled a weaboo? Man... I know I`m using poor Japanese. Makes it more fun all the more.

Weaboo by talking Japanese? Makes us... English/American by talking English...

I`m not shocked by the earthquake. Only by the after effects. Nuclear breakdowns are bad... very bad... If I didn`t had to go to school and had the money... I`d go and help people there.

Psh. I'm glad that there is no equivalent of weaboo word in my language... the worst one could hear here is being a "japanese cartoons fan" and that also depends on the way that it's said. Besides, I never met anyone who would show strong negative feelings towards it in person. Most that don't like it are just like "well, I don't like it, that's all". End of story. If you don't try to preach and convert anyone, then you won't get negative response. Hey, it's their loss that they don't want to look further in that kind of stuff. Different suit for every person, right?

TheGreatHibiki wrote:we so corrupted her in America, I swear. It stuck.

I'd love to corrupt some japanese girl, hur, hur. Very Happy

But Poland is so damn monogamous... the majority of asians here are vietnamese and they're pretty much closed group. Still, they're suckers for polish girls. One time, when I was with my friends in a nightclub our female friends fished two vietnamese guys, very effiminate ones, metrosexual types, to buy drinks for all six of us. Oh, I still remember the look on their faces when they came out early because they were washed out of all money... and we had three rounds of various drinks, thanks to these guys. Twisted Evil
Which doesn't make me suprised that they're so closed group after all. Very Happy
But seriously, they have some things with their national, heck, govermental invigilation units going on in here, so it kind of explains few things. And lately, because of some laws that were passed in our country, they have problems with getting into illegal trade buisness(clothes mostly) which most of them did, so guess what they're doing now in Poland? Pot. Producing, selling... piss-poor quality, etc. And, of course, most of the income comes to these govermental invigilation groups. They're socialist, after all, so no suprise here.

Ok., back to the topic, what grinds my gears... heck, nothing. Life's fine. I had a good day, a very good one. Maybe the lack of negative emotions grinds my gears? Some drama under control would be nice. Very Happy

Police.

Oh, yeah - police pisses me off. I could start giving arguments and examples, both personal and not, about why I think so, but today I once again saw what some policeman do on duty.

In my city centre there is a fountain, that kind where you have a nice, paved square and many holes with water pipes underneath them. And, when water flows, it's illuminated by colored lights.
Since it's getting warmer, it's once again, active and normally, during the day, I often see kids of different ages that play in sprinkling water, often with their parents. And that is perfectly fine for the police, as it seems.

But when adult guy walks in to dance in water, a fine ticket is a guarantee.

I was walking after dark near that fountain and I sat down to look at it(well, it looks nice and all), smoke some cig's and relax a bit. And, all of the sudden, a guy with a radio walks nearby these holes, pushes play button and Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" starts playing. Nice, I think, 'cause I like the song, but then the guy started to dance. Obviously, he was a skilled one, and then I saw another guy with a camera that gradually walked towards him as music rolled. When the upbeat part came in and the camera guy was almost meter away from him, the dancing guy jumped into the water streams and continued dancing, in a more upbeat and wild way. The nearby girls started laughing, I smiled too - it was a pretty suprising, original and most of all - well done show.

But they haven't saw two policeman that walked by.

Sigh... do I really need to write how it ended? These two guys got tickets and the dancing guy was grabbed by the neck by one of these brain-dead bulldogs because he wanted to finish the dance in water streams and the policemen weren't too keen on going after him. They could get wet, after all! Scary thing! They got about 80$ fine, one for each.

Yep, in my city the police is mostly occupied by chasing drunk bicyclists, teenagers drinking in park after dark or bums drinking in some places that nobody, besides them, ever visits. Oh, and picking up girls - but, like with many things, they're bad with it as well.

To think that my taxes are going for their salaries... Evil or Very Mad

Sorry for spelling, grammar mistakes, it's a little late here and I'm pretty tired.

Sounds like what you need is some regular, mostly non-violent crime to keep the local police force busy. Last town I lived in is heavily vested in agriculture as an industry. As a result, all the chemicals one needs to manufacture methamphetamine are in easy reach. The police are busy catching manufacturers and distributors, and when they aren't doing that, they and the fire department are training to deal with meth cooks and their ramshackle, liable to blow up at any second labs.

Recently what grinds my gears are so-called 'adaptions' of some of my favorite books and tv shows that are so horribly, horribly done that it makes me question just who the hell approved of it. The following rants are me letting off steam about said 'adaptions.' WARNING: Spoilers for some of said movies follow, though considering how crappy they are, I doubt too many people care.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

I am an avid fan of greek mythology. I am also an avid fan of the book series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I am especially a fan of the Lightning Thief as it works so well in bringing the concept of the classic greek religion into our modern society on the word go. I am NOT, however, a fan of this so-called adaption of the book. And it’s not because of the acting or anything like that, but because of how inaccurate it is in relation to the subject matter it’s following, and I'll give a few examples:

The beginning where Zeus already knows that Percy is Poseidon’s son. WAY off from the book. It was to be a big reveal, though the hints were everywhere. I admit it's a minor detail that could be overlooked...until the second mistake: The fact that Percy has to travel around to find those pearls. This concept thoroughly pissed me off, because it killed quality screen time for stuff that was ACTUALLY FROM THE BOOK!

Luke giving Percy the shield: Uh, no. That was to be Tysons job in the SECOND book/movie, along with the appearance of the Hydra. This downright kills at least one of the major subplots in the second book.

Even when ignoring the book, it’s still disrespectful to the classic greek mythology which the book, but not the movie, seems to understand. For starters: The underworld is UNDER THE WORLD! That’s how Hades got his name! He’s named for the rich minerals beneath the ground. Kinda kills the whole "underworld" title if the place is floating in the sky. Also, why the hell is Persephone there? IT'S SUMMER! And if the excuse is because she hides there in another book, again, it kills continuity between installments. Anyways, speaking of Hades...

HES NOT A F****ING BAD GUY! That was a major point in the book. Just because he’s an outcast compared to the rest of the gods does NOT mean he’s a villain. Not only that, but they took out Ares as a character all together. Again, it screws up big continuity concepts later in the series.

After watching this film, I wanted to take a book of Greek Mythology and shove it so far up Chris Columbus' *** that he would end up spitting out a copy of The Iliad. Maybe THEN he would be able to make a movie that was actually ACCURATE!

Avatar: The Last Airbender
The pacing for this movie felt more like it was one big recap of the first book until they got to the North Pole. The acting was so horribly wooden; my high school drama club would have done a better job as a cast for this thing. The change in name pronunciation was a little nerve racking at best and incredibly irritating at worst.

Also, half the characters didn’t look anything like their cartoon counterparts. Aang didn’t look like Aang, Kitara didn’t look like Kitara. The guy they chose for Uncle Iroh was tall and skinny (WAY off course), and Zuko’s scar looked nothing like an actual burn victim scar, let alone looking anything like in the cartoon. Appa didn’t even look right in the freaking movie. The ONLY one who actually looked like a live action variation of an Avatar character was Sokka, but they completely screwed that up by obliterating the fun comedic personality he had and replacing it with an annoying-as-hell, over-protective and whiney sibling personality that wasn’t funny in the least.

I spent a 3-day weekend in a marathon of Avatar: The Last Airbender and it was absolutely epic. Then I sat down to watch The Last Airbender movie, and I could barely make it to the 15 minute mark without turning it off.

Some people in my country grind my gears. When they heard that Osama was dead, there were out cheering in the streets... over one man's death. While he could be considered the face of terrorism (and cheering for the loss of that face might be a better thing to cheer for), he is still a man (though a rather messed up man).

So, I've got a new job in gastronomy buisness as a younger bartender, which is pretty much bartender's assistant. Nevertheless, that also means that I'm, de facto, a chief of the bar during most of the "slower days" - and that means from monday to thursday. I was at work on tuesday and wedsday and while the first one was a really "slow one" the latter was the opposite.

Around 16:30 a flood of unexpected guests started to arrive and it hasn't stopped till 21:40. Me, alone at the bar and only with two waiters at work were working like bees. Bam, four Absolut vodka shots, four rounds of Kamikaze(which means 4x4 shots), Mojito, Sex on The Beach, Long Island Ice Tea, Martini Bianco along with tons of soda, apple juices, pepsi, orange juices, blackberry & cranberry juices, freshly squeezed orange & grapefruit juices, black tea, earl grey, green tea, dozens of espresso's, cappuccino's, double espresso's and latte's. Not to mention cleaning glasses, tea cups, coffe cups, jugs, mixer, squeezer, sink, coffe expres when there are people who want another rounds... in what I ask if everything is pretty much dirty after their sixth espresso or shot? It was my fourth day at work and a second where I was alone. The waitress said that they haven't seen a traffic like this since a long time.

Which is, all in all, a good thing - cash keeps flowing, tips and I've got some experience from being tossed into a deep water. I made few mistakes, that was unevitable being a newbie in this job, but in the end, I did well for a non-experienced fellow.
Still, I came back home around midnight, tired as hell. And there's still friday, saturday and sunday before me - thankfully, with an experienced, veteran bartender. Not to mention that there are two wedding parties on saturday till the dusk... so I'll probably be about 30 hours or more on my feet. It kind of scares me, but I like this job and it's better when there's something to do than when the only thing you can do is to polish the glasses over and over again.

So, the only thing that grind my gears are, in fact, my sore feet. Very Happy

Bungie/Microsoft.

Ever since they announced Halo 3: ODST, I've hated them. Halo CE, 2, and 3 were great games in my opinion, but then they showed their greedy selves and went for a couple more games. I was so happy when they said that Reach would be the last one.

But they just wouldn't stop there, would they.

At E3, they announced Halo 4, as well as a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved. I expect them to mess up Halo 4, but if they do anything other than a graphics boost to the Halo CE remake, I will thoroughly be pissed.

Nintendo. I am dissapointed in you. I really am. Your E3 conference was okay for a while, nothing majorly wrong at first. Then we all beg you to introduce your new console. We're expecting a big box that outperforms the PS3, Xbox 360 and would have tons of third party support. I don't think that's going to happen now.

WiiU. A fucking controller with a screen! A fucking controller. And it looks like an iPad with a massive border round the screen.

You know when 4chan says "That's it! Nintendo is finished!"? They are now.

What pisses me off even more, is the "hardcore" games they are releasing. They are also being released on 360 and ps3, even PC! The only 2 games they announced I was ecstatic for, is Luigi's Mansion 2 and Smash Bros. and those are coming to the 3ds!

WiiU is a bad idea...

You do know your half right, Halo: Reach was the last Halo game for Bungie. 343 Studios took over, and I hope like Halo:CE for PC it has a over the shoulder camera option. Just switching from FPS to TPS was just so awesome. Especially when carrying that damn flag, watch it wave.
