I'm pretty impressive at whistling.

And I've messed around with a whole bunch of stringed instruments but have never been formally taught.

Guitar, eight years, have some cheap EverPlay Acoustic guitar, one Samick Ultramatic, sold my Hohner one.
Bass Guitar, can't really say, because of the rarity I play on it as I don't have one personally. But about two years total, perhaps.
Harmonica, a rather amateur stuff, to kill the boredom or to fill the emptiness.
Ocarina - same as above. Bought it because I was inspired by Zelda Very Happy.

And I whistle quite a lot, even in public.

Guitar for 8 years, but I kinda stopped over the last few years. I moved to Malaysia and the ambient humidity keeps rusting my strings Exclamation
Should put more effort into instrument care and get things back on track

Currently I'm playing the piano, but I use to know how to play the flute and trombone (which by the way was one of the simplest instruments ever, only 7 positions, the only downside is that you need really long arms)

I consider my voice as an instrument, but I got dropped from choir a few months ago due to a full schedule.

Seriously, it was old the first time I heard it, it's still old. I've never been to band camp, and even if I had been, that's fucking disgusting.

This one time in the back of my band bus, coming home from an away game... :p

Okay, seriously, fuck you. How would you feel if you couldn't ever say what instrument you play without someone insinuating a disgusting sexual joke at you?

And this is why I generally try to steer clear of innuendos...

I use to play the flute and the trombone. Now I'm in piano, but I play sporadically =/

I haven't picked up my flute in a long time. Partially because I have nothing to play it for, I'm not in any bands or orchestras and because of that, my skills have gotten rusty. The other part is because I'm so damn sick of that American Pie joke, it's almost not even worth it anymore. It's not like I'm going to get any respect as a musician. Never really did.

So you find no pleasure or joy in simple playing? Improvising? Composing?
I don't play in a band anymore because I don't have time for a group activity that is so consuming, yet I still love to play at home, jam with backtracks, improvise, compose something, or just doodle around for pure fun.

When I picked up the instrument I thought like many kids "oh, yeah, I'm gonna be a rock star, I'm gonna get girls and tour around the world", but after a year of playing I've realised I was childish. Respect? You don't require respect for doing what you like to do. And if you're picking up an instrument to gain respect, then maybe you shouldn't. Because it's vanity.

Like you have room to talk about vanity. I'm not going to bother to explain it to you, because you tend not to listen to me anyway.

I have, especialy because I personally know how it could be both constructive and destructive.

I'm talking about vanity when it comes to art.
Vanity is a crime towards music but in certrain cases (i.e. Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritche Blackmore) can lead one into the enlightenment.

So, yes, I can talk about it and I do listen to you, but that doesn't mean that I take your opionions as reasonable.

Yet you're constantly talking about how cool you think you are and how great your job is and how many women you picked up. Yeah, you have SO much room to talk about vanity.

And you never take anything I say as reasonable. Which makes me feel like you don't listen. So I'm not going to bother. Aside from that, I've not been in the most pleasant of moods for the past week.

You sure don't make the effort to hide it.
The flute is an instrument I'd love to learn, puns or no puns the sounds it can make are beyond awesome.
And I can assume you didn't whole heartedly enjoy playing the flute if one of the reasons you don't play is because of a joke from some college comedy movie, have you ever thought about picking up another instrument?

I play the guitar, the bass and the tuba.

Truth is not vanity.
Expectations can be vanity.

I told only truth - thus - no vanity.

Flutes are awesome, I agree with Winds.

If a joke makes your passion/hobby taste bad then maybe it's not your passion/hobby.

And being in a bad mood is no excuse for anything. Use your anger on a flute or something.
