A couple of interesting points:
From what Vanity says, she has been relying on Stoker to navigate through the underhalls/caverns. This, interestingly, suggests that he is around all the time. He is either a bound spirit or a 'guardian spirit', that stays with his 'principal' at all times.
I also notice that Jack draws Ezekiel's speech balloons in the same way as he draws Stoker's. This suggests that they are both communicating in the same way. As Stoker is a disembidied spirit, that means some kind of telepathy. This increases the chance that Ezekiel's body is just an animated corpse that his spirit is using as a physical tool (consider it a zombie with a disembodied controller).
What does Vanity need a pen for? Hey... Haven't you guys ever tried to draw a map when playing a dungeon exploration game? Although Zork annoys the hell out of me when it says 'it is too dark to do anything'.
