Calm down, man.
I think by
western he meant comics that come from USA. And while I'm no specialist in USA comic world, I have to admit that the most visible and most promoted are the superhero genre comics. And that's why some may think that the majority of comics
in general are about Marvel & DC crew. Wich is what actually most people, that aren't interested in comic books, think. And I don't blame them - superheroes are profitable among young audience wich is still the main target, no matter what others may say. To this day, the most best-selling comics come from either Disney, Marvel (now merged with Disney) or DC. And I don't expect Disney giving much of creative freedom to the artist & writers, not to mention giving them proper advertising.
And most manga & anime
is in fact boobs & pantsu. Especially the newest one. I have a really hard time digging through new titles and finding one that has low quanity of those. Not that I don't like these things, but not on every damn page. Example - I heard good things about "
Nyan Koi" anime, so I thought I'd check it out. First, second, third and even fourth episodes were nice, for an ecchi comedy. Not to many pantsu, boobs or such. But after that - it was basicly a harem anime wich I can't watch lately after seeing tons of these. One guy, few
kawaii girls and the main plot idea goes out through the window. And in my anime & manga browsing time, examples like this are about 60-70% of what I can find.
I have a feeling that most of the US stuff is too focused on fighting - superhero or not - and violence - mild or strong - while japanese are pantsu, boobs or moe. It's my opinion based on what I can find on the net or on the shelves of a comic stores that I rarely visit. And as for European stuff... I find it the most varied market, but still, many positions that I can find on the shelves are annoyingly pretentious, serious and depressing. But I guess that's what is the most popular ATM. Nevertheless, I still find the European market the most varied.
But I'm still more into manga than anything else. Pantsu FTW.
