You can just tell by this alone, the character is not drawn well enough if the charm is the most noticable feature xD

Hey, Nikolai, I have a quick question, how do you get your inspirations for what you draw? I've been stuck with a mental block for months, and I can't figure out what to draw, and I need a bit of advice

I know the question wasn't meant for me but Artists should help eachother out.

Draw what you know. Draw what you see. Make pictures of things and then replicate them. Thats just to keep you in the drawing. Then see what pops in your head.

Do fanart. Do random scribbles. But keep drawing. Even if it is just an eye *like I often do... Just drawing random eyes*.

Thats a very nice line-art. Can't wait to see the finished drawing!

It really comes down to what you're feeling.

Think of stuff you like, or things you like looking at and just apply yourself. Fanart, your own OC's, etc., it's like Xen said, you just really have to do it and keep drawing.

A couple days ago, I spent hours just sketching away little doodles and stuff on a page. And it helped.

Try practicing stuff you have trouble with. For me in particular, I did face shape, hands, nails, head to body ratio....

Give it a shot.

Well, it's a little more complicated than that. I've tried just sketching at random, but I'd stumble along a faux thought and then I'd botch the entire attempt, winding up with another wasted crumpled up parchment in the garbage. But, I suppose I'll just have to keep on trying, some point-or-other I'm going to have some triumph

To be Honest. I wouldn't ask myself about things that have anything to do with drawing, cus (according to many people on here) My "advise" is poor.

All I can say is that something just hits me. I do many attempts at a drawing, Most Unsuccessful or Incomplete. You should see how many unfinished drawings I have in my books. What will happen is Ill be drawing, and I will start to see a Picture or Pose, or character (etc.) and I will role with it.
(With the one above, I already had the character Idea [Friends character; I will post their drawing that I used as a Ref.] I just needed a pose and topic)
Well, I just started drawing, and I got this rather serene & simple pose. I liked it.
I came up with the idea of having the petals later, and even more later, I added her Right arm being Up and catching a petal.

Thanks for askin Me tho. Really boosts my Self-esteem, thinking people think I'm good.

I've been checking through this forum topic quite frequently, and I've started up on getting some actual drawings in, so, after I cap some pictures in of them, I'll be able to submit them here (Metaphorically, to keep appearance)

That is exactly what you shouldn't do.

I cannot count how many times I scrapped a whole picture because I couldn't get one or more elements right. I should have finished those pictures even with badly drawn elements and I advise the same for you.

If it's a practice piece, screw the rubber and go wild, make tons of helping lines if you must, but do finish the picture. Even if it'll be messy.
Then do it again. And again and again and again. Observe what you're doing wrong, and after each new approach, try something different that will satisfy you. But don't scrap the picture before it's been finished.

I think that's one of the worst things begginers can do. For one thing, it teaches persistance, it helps you to get into a sort of a workflow and - the most obvious thing - you'll have a material to check how your progress is coming.

Another minor request for whomever is up to take, and I'm hoping to see something I can emulate or other, I'm having trouble drawing up a male character without giving him some sort of headgear, be it a facemask, a shemagh, or something. I'd like to see if anyone can draw my main ideal character, Johnathan Keller. I know I have absolutely no reference pictures, but I kind of just want to see what people draw to get some good results. (I'm probably not going to get any results, but can't find out without asking, now can I?)

That's kind of my major struggle here, male characters with bare faces and heads. (I seriously freaking suck at this)
