I won't say that early 21st-century Britain is paranoid about child abuse but, in the social care industry, you have to do a new background check for every single job, no matter how recently you had one done! This makes life for agency workers pretty much impossible.
Overall, I think that Spider got off lucky. Usually the tabloid press try to arrange a lynch mob!
