I don't think it was an accident.

Here's what I think:
Gary is not evil at all and joins with the girls to save Art,Kat and Leonard
They are successful
and then Gary will most likely do one of the following:

• stay with the girls and denzines
  
• sacrifice himself for some reason
  
• fulfil his dream (lol)
  
• get reprogrammed so he is more qualified to be a robot alien thing and go back to the ship, maybe taking command or something

I still think that JJ's Martians are better Daleks than the real thing.

That aside, in hindsight it was inevitable that Gary (the bullied, bottom-of-the-heap 'bot) would get left behind. I don't think that we'll see him again for a while. However, he's going to make a return eventually, possibly when Jack and OzBASIC try for revenge on our heroes. At that time, he'll be the Dalek Kahn-style wild-card that will change everything just by his presence.

I also suspect he's accident prone. Something like this: "DIE ORGANIC SCUM! EXTERMINATE!!!" Vorp! *Blows away back wall - his targets escape through the resulting ad-hoc exit* "Oh, crap." *Roof starts falling in* "Oh CRAP!"

I think that Gary will take the 'logical path of action' and go and find the allies of the 'anomaly', seeing as how they are the most proficient link to his ship.

Or just simply start a cleaning service. He'll excel at that!
