2 words: Adolph Hitler.
He had no talented and strategic military mind. Hitler survived as long as he did because he had political power, numbers and luck. Mostly luck. Example, if that briefcase wasn't repositioned behind that table leg, Operation "Valkyrie" would have been a success, meaning one dead Hitler.

He decided it would be a great idea to blow pot smoke in the face of a WILD RACCOON to try and get it high.

I think it was both luck and sheer stupidity. Sheer stupidity that he got into the face of a wild raccoon. Luck that it didn't tear his lips off.
