I know it's a stand-alone, but if there was ever a Vanity Thorne spin-off strip, that spooky bookshop and that scholarly vixen could easily be her 'watcher' analogue - someone who knows ghosts, spooks and freaks and keeps Vanity in the know.
Naturally she turns out to be a witch and a lot of her stock is... not for sale and somewhat hazardous to the uninitiated.
