I think that Hilary has suddenly realised just how vulnerable she is right now. I think that she's suddenly wishing with all her heart that she hadn't been an evil, malicious bully all those years.

I see a start of realisation in panel 3, but more hate and cold soulless resolve to destroy Kat before Kat gets a chance, rather than fear in that last panel.

C'mon Kat, let's think long-term here. We KNOW a chronically miserable Hilary won't be content with keeping her misery to herself, and we still don't know how long it'll take to get her house fixed up.

Nah, as a psychopath, Hilary has no regrets in that regard.  She just automatically assumes Kat will be out to eliminate Squee because that's what Hilary would do if their situations were reversed.  So she naturally thinks she needs to take preemptive action to stop Kat.  It never crossed her mind that Kat might have a different reason for asking, even if it's just an innocent confirmation Kat understood Scarlet right.

"Just asking for a friend."

That gave me a hell of a laugh, especially panel #3.
