"More like the way you and Kat are friends."

Forever awkward and dodging the issue, stuck in a flirtationship that progresses at the whim of a hamster deity.

You want that?

Are you sure?

Do you know what you ask for?

Come on, Art. You and Kat need to get serious eventually. X3 Also, great talk about tricking others into staying longer.

The only way that could have been more uncomfortable, is if Kat was there listening... BTW: Where is Kat?

Most likely staying as far away from the possessive squirrels as possible. I mean, if I was on the receiving end of four simultaneous death glares, I'd be hiding too.

One day I hope the hamster deity allows the relationship between Kat and Art to be true and proper lovey.
He is not omnipotent, but an evil god! For why would a god that could prevent such evil not stop it if for his own amusement?

Okay, Scarlet, I get that but... well, maybe you should tell him rather than just try to pine over him whilst he does chores?

Personally, I'm okay with Art and Kat's relationship staying unresolved for the most part. For one, I'm reminded of the I Dream of Jeannie TV show which jumped the shark when the main characters got married, thus busting the sexual tension that was part of the show. For another, I find it tiresome how romantic plot tumors are so often wedged into stories that don't need them. There's other peeves I have, but those two are the big ones.

On the other hand, Art and Kat's relationship is more realistic to me, proceeding slowly without the two getting into a clichéd bunglefest of a romantic comedy. In some aspects, it's like the two have already gotten past that initial stage of infatuation and have settled into the more stable long-term love. It's not so in-your-face or obnoxious.

In-universe, we don't know what might be holding them back, beyond their own apparent discomfort at the idea. For example, are there social pressures against interspecies relationships? (Mind you, Pip's a pervert, and Hilary doesn't care if she's sleazy to get what she wants.) Does Art or Kat have some sort of mental hangup against a romantic relationship? Was part of the conditions for Art's inheritance the condition that he never marry or pursue a relationship? The mind boggles.

Honestly, I think this is one of those times where the exception could be made and it wouldnt jump the shark. Like you said, they're practically dating except in name only, so sexual tension being put aside we could have cute hijinx instead. It wouldnt feel forced or out the way given how long this comic has been going on. Though I am curious about the inter-species angle: we've seen more humans than anthros and more anthro babes than anthro hunks in universe. Wonder what that does for this society.

Either way, letting a couple get together can work so long as it wasnt the focus of the show. This is a slice of life comic with adventure arcs so it has an organic, natural place.

This aint the big bang theory where after letting Leonard get the girl it continued to shuffle on as the corpse it is today.

@CyberCorn

Well, just resolve the UST with one very close (and probably quite drunken) night together and "Presto", you'll have a new source of potential drama and/or hilarity...in about nine months or so. Twisted Evil

Ah, yes. The old "people who don't use protection are called parents" joke. Personally, I think that a baby running around would be a serious hazard... To the squirrel girls at least, if you remember that whole Scarlet's first Christmas shopping trip and the pre-preteen girl that snuggled in her tail.
