This is kind of...right. Pip was a virgin, this was his first time on the battlefield, and I'll agree that this was one hell of a way to earn his wings.

If you think about it, other than the use of drugs, Hilary hasn't really done worse than many other people. Sure, we're angry because we got to watch the story unfold from both sides, and there was a cold, meticulous way that she went about things, but someone using someone else to cover for them while they pursue other objectives is nothing new, and a girl or guy having sex with multiple people, regardless for the reasons behind it, is also not new. I refuse to call it cheating. One time sex with someone does not equal a relationship and Pip's inexperience in that area is to blame (along with Hilary allowing him to believe so).

I don't think any of us believe that if this had been Kat or Art in a similar situation with someone, that they would have made Pip's mistakes. Pip was simply a guppy going up against an Barracuda. Hopefully this experience won't sour him against women. At the same time, I hope he will start to actually chase the real thing.
(No one else in that house seems to be having sex, or a relationship.)

Cheating isn't about sleeping with other people its about the betrayal of trust and manipulation of vulnerability. This wasn't Hilary just dating and sleeping around and Pip getting too involved. This is Hilary consciously making sure Pip felt like they really had something going, it wasn't just the sex it was the fake love and attention she gave him. The first tangible, attractive girl that played video games with him, watched sci-fy with him and was generally interested in his happiness (or so he thought)

Hilary invested herself into a fake relationship and Pip did the same - thats the killing blow. Thats what makes it cheating. People are so concerned with titles and "making it official" that they think those that are damaged by the complications of relationships dont have a right to be hurt or vengeful. Thats wrong. A relationship isn't giving someone the title of girlfriend or boyfriend. Its investing yourself in someone else's life and not taking advantage of them when they're completely vulnerable.

That last panel ...

Poor Pip. He's doing the Calvin: "Today must be opposite day! This 'F' is really an 'A'. That must be it!" He was pretty blind going in, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. Pip's a cartoon, but I know people who have been badly used like this in real life, and yeah. It hurts. I really hope Hilary goes down in flames, and that's not Schadenfreude - some people really need the Universe to repay them for the pain they cause.

I do feel bad for the little pervert. It was as if a small part of him knew but was placed into a "denial box"........ With a big-ass hole in the bottom. Love those: It looks secure until you pick it up and all the contents fall out.... And somehow the heaviest piece hits your foot.

Morning Gentlemen. I don't have a massive amount of surprise about this page, and I know there will be some journey of character development for some of our characters. Pip has had some character development, might he have more? I have the feeling that if there is to be anyone who excels at heartless emotionless pain causing manipulation, it would be Pip. Go Pip Go!

Tangent reviews put up a piece being disappointed at there not being a redeeming twist to the Hilary arc ... but Sequential Art has not ever been a predicable arc. It's a subtle shifting sands of a slice-of-life story, with an occasional spine wrenching reality detour ... from time to time. Also, it's not my comic, these are not my characters, and I enjoy all that happens here.

Looks like Pip finally got out of de Nile. Too bad he had to get chomped by a bunny-eared croc before he finally got the message there's dangerous critters swimming in there.


I suspect Hilary's probably going to come out of this relatively well. Sure, Pip will probably come up with some revenge, but, like the arc where Hilary butted heads with Art, it might be something embarrassing or a minor setback but it won't be something that'll cripple her to the degree Wolfman and her other detractors might like. After all, Hilary still makes for an excellent recurring villain.

Besides, we need a Scarlet vs. Hilary arc yet. If Scarlet can drive Art to distraction with her behavior, what would she do to Hilary? Would Hilary become furious at an apparent inability to affect Scarlet? Is it possible the others can't come out on top against Hilary because they're trying in a field Hilary outstrips them in, yet Scarlet could get the victory because she wasn't trying?
