Why do the villains always try to stymie the hero by threatening an innocent? Well, because it usually works! One of these days, I'd love for one hero to reply: "Look, as matters stand, you're going to prison but you'll be alive and mostly intact. Kill that person and I'll make it my business that you go to prison in a body cast and unlikely to be able to walk or talk ever again. Please make your decision now and understand that this is the last chance you get."

Meanwhile, I think that Scarlet has remembered an interesting effect that alcohol can have on ice.

Unfortunately, "Koba" (or is that "Caesar"?) has a point.

Also, BenRG, you have a point as far as the hostage situation goes. While I pretty sure that I've seen the occasional rare example of this, the only example I can recall of this is from an old Wolverine story ("Go ahead, pull the trigger. But once you do, Bub, then you're mine!")

Scarlet's got an idea! Should we worry?

When have any of Scarlett's ideas ever caused a problem?

Um... Now I come to think about it, when haven't they?

OK - Time to start worrying. Shocked

There's a scene like BenRG describes in an old movie called "Billy Jack":

[the deputy is holding one of the school's girls at gunpoint as Billy Jack approaches]

Deputy: Now you drop that gun or I'll shoot her!

Deputy: [long pause] I'm not gonna ask you again.

Billy Jack: You won't have to.

Deputy: What?

Billy Jack: I said shoot her.

Deputy: [cocks revolver] You'd kill her? just like that?

Billy Jack: [shakes his head] You'll kill her.

[points his rifle]

Billy Jack: And then I'll kill you. Just like that.

At which point the Deputy gives a forced laugh and claims he was just kidding.
