Heh, looks like Pip's trapped by the plumage. And that cart looks to be heavily laden.

Yeah that's the idea.
I don't think I've laughed out loud at this many pages in a row for a long time.

Is it sad that I only knew what the Centurion said because of Beavis & Butthead? ("It's Sterculius, Roman god of feces!")

Oh that's Horrible Ben. Though to be honest I saw it coming. The timing couldn't have been better for it.

Hey Roman gear. That may sell a pretty penny. Once his account is not on hold Pip's in the money.

After I finished laughing my first thought is that Pip is about to start selling some genuine Roman gear on ebay.

Just as soon as he gets it off his feathers so he can get to his computer

Paving slabs and gravel, for road-building.

Paving slabs and gravel are guarded by a cohort of legionairs? Doesn´t make sense.

The cart contents could be menhirs which they took from Gaulish masons. Expect an upset Gaul (Obelix) to show up and attempt to claim them back only to find them missing.

The Romans built the roads. The roads were often unwelcome. Generally road-building on the frontiers of the Roman Empire was a pretty well-guarded endeavor.

Or, hey, maybe it was simply a farm cart which the legionnaires were about to overtake.

But yeah, probably more plot to be had if we assume it is something a bit less mundane.

Wasn't the roads that weren't welcome exactly, just the guys building them (quite a lot of the time that was the legionnaires themselves) and what they represented; specifically, domination by a foreign power. Also, road surfacing blocks were good stone and worth a pretty penny to any local lord/chief/king that wanted a stone manor house….

Still, Ark of the Covenant would be more interesting, if a little unlikely; as far as we know, the Romans were never 'officially' interested in the superstitions of their client nations enough to actually go and chase down legendary artefacts that probably don't exist.

Now, the DHD for the second Earth Stargate? That would be a win.

I am thinking "exact location time displacement", so the cart is in the same place, just now in a different time.

Hopefully it's not the corpse of Constantius I, and if slave girls they would be Picts or Scots. However, while Roman minted gold or silver would be nice, explaining how you found it or why it (or any Roman items) are in mint condition could be problematic. Honestly, I don't think Jack wants to add any more characters to the cast so it's got to be something odd.

I can see it now...

"It's alright. It's just a cart. No harm done."

"Yeah. But that's how it begins. First it's just a harmless cart. Then it's a ship laden with vikings. And after that? A Trojan Horse! Or a pre-historic meteorite!"
