The verb license or grant licence means to give permission. The noun license (American English) or licence (British English, Indian English, Canadian English, Australian English) refers to that permission as well as to the document recording that permission.

I would just like to say that a certain Bruce Willis movie about a thief stealing Da Vinci works of art at the behest of evil people trying to build an alchemical machine designed by the late Italian artist/inventor whilst using the run time of some of his favorite songs to time his actions should, by all means, not be considered bad.

Also, one of my favorite Minecraft Mods did the same thing to their website this First of April.
