*Warning: thar be spoilers ahead*

I just got finished with Better Days by Jay Naylor. I am going to just assume a majority of you guys have finished it or at least heard of it. I was wondering about other peoples opinions on the comic. It was a really superb read in my honest opinion, it got a bit messed up at some parts (rape, incest, murder) and the reactions to some stuff wasn't really that believable ( Fisk seemed more effected by his mother's affair than his mother's rape). I think a majority of the events mentioned were included for shock value, but each had a lasting effect that had actual meaning. Also, it seems Jay Naylor has an uncanny ability to stuff his own opinions into the story, chapter 4 being the least subtle. some of these are thought provoking and others are rather right-wing but everything seems to balance out.

Anyone else got thoughts about the comic?

I'll just post my review from the webcomics topic.

Better Days: Probably one of the better finished webcomics I've ever read. The art is relatively detailed, and pretty well done. It's done a great job of mixing humor, drama, romance, and emotion and I've gotta say, it's one of those webcomics that's really made me feel. Honestly, I don't fully know why, but you watch as these characters go from 8/9 year olds to full-on adults, and just watching them grow up, it just really has an impact on you. The serious moments of it are done well and balanced. The Incest value of it pretty much just makes its scene and kinda fades, but you don't really forget it, so don't let that keep you from reading it. It's all like watching life happen so quickly. Honestly, I don't know why, but there are just some times in it that really made me feel moved. I think it made me feel more temporarily emo than it should have, but it's definitely one of those ones you should read just for yourself. It makes you think, y'know? As for the insertion of personal opinion, I say more power to him. I mean seriously, isn't the point of story writing to get across a point or idea to the reader? What better choice than something you believe in?

Long opinion short: Laughed, cried, died a little inside, and thought about stuff.

Yep.

It was enjoyable and thought provoking, and was written in such a way that I don't care about the parts i disagree with.

I agree with a majority of that and it was definitely well written, I felt he kinda pushed it in the chapter "Persia" though. I don't really understand why people complained so much over the disturbing stuff though, those people would be in hysterics if they saw "Concession".

Incest is disturbing?

Damn, I've been on the internet too long.

I loved it, and my opinion will most likely be repeated by most people.

Maybe disturbing wasn't the best term, but I am lacking a better word, maybe taboo would fit better.

I have convinced 3 of my friends to read it, they are a bit pissed at me for directing them to a furry comic.

Also if you can take /b/ in more than 1 hour streaks, you have been on the internet too long.

I agree that "taboo" is better. I got one of my friends to read, but know they just use the term "Better Days" to bescribe something gross or creepy, and just because of chapter 10.

My friend Kevin just got past chapter 10 the other day, he wasn't very happy with me. I am slightly confused on how this even bothered him because he managed to watch "Aftermath", a film about necrophilia (without any notable mental trauma), yet he was bothered by inferred incest.

Oh sh---

Then I'm a goner.

"Better Days"? I haven't read the whole thing, it was too boring for my tastes. Too much text with pretty much copy-paste quality pictures... that's about it.

I'm afraid that I have enough drama in my own life already, so there's no need for me to find more in comics. Very Happy
