*Inspired by an IM conversation*

Since the dawn of the internet when users first realized that they could hide behind the persona and safe anonymity of a nickname there has raged multiple flame wars. Such wars has led to the destruction of entire forums. Civil wars that rage till this day. Where one word can spark a war encompassing many users over many months that result in the change of the face of entire communities.

This thread is the testimony to this enduring aspect of the internet. Here we can discuss our war experiences. Where we were. What we did, our defeats, our victories. What manoeuvres ensured victory and what harsh lessons were learned by defeat. Come now and share your stories around the campfire.

I once partook in the online Halo vs. StarWars war. I'm still recovering.

The lack of good stories comes from the fact, that some may see flame wars as immature and/or pointless behaviour.
I personally don't see any need to participate in one, because why should I?

Discussions. Yes.
Heated discussions. Fine.
Flame wars. No. Log out, don't come back.

Yes

@Pietja, Actually I meant something like my response below, making a simple debate a war diary Razz Also, maybe it's just the forum I'm from but flame wars rarely get out of hand, we're just to civil xD

Noah's War by MicasR wrote:It was the 28th of April. A war was brewing. Religious unrest was ripe within off-topic province. It took just one thread for this unrest to spark into open revolt. That spark was the announcement that Noah's ark had been found. From this point on heated debate took place. For the first 40 posts or so the debate was somewhat civil. That was until someone threw in the atheist card and someone responded with the religious card! From that point a cold war erupted with both parties throwing links and wiki's around. Fruitlessly trying to convince one another of something unimportant.

At dawn of the 1st of May open battle took place. Now all out war raged for nearly a month as heated arguments about the lies in the Bible and the ignorance of atheists were thrown around. This is were I joined the battle. I was there from the start, participating in honest debate but once the flaming of war began I had to take a side. The atheists on this particular forum being all mean and bullyish scared me off and thus I took to the side of... actually I don't know which side I took, probably the religious side.

The war progressed and the sides became more clear: Evolutionists vs Creationists. An alliance of mutual respect was signed between me and a creationist and our new assault began. The war dragged on, the atheists using long walls of text to confuse us and we using our pointless religious links coupled with cheerfulness to try and soften them up, tactics changed, assaults failed. Our forces became weakened, our morale dropped.

For days neither side budged and both were fighting to the teeth. Then more reinforcements arrived. Though I must admit they were unwanted and did more harm than good. Zealots are not a good ally in such a war. The argument started to take on two levels. One the open war of evolutionists against creationist led by General Fredder and the campaign of objectiveness and unbiased, led by me. As the war intensified our forces tried again and again to pincer the enemy forces, but their long walls of text made it difficult to create proper responses and we resorted to skimming. A dangerous tactic which just fuelled the war.

The war progressed into early May, and the quick victory we had hoped diminished. Though we did not want to surrender. We attempted a cease fire, but this call fell on deaf ears. The war continued, and our alliance was weakened [or rather strengthened] by the departure of the Zealot. Our main force tried to brake the line with a frontal assault but our opponent was to skilled in the hyperlink and text walls.

The final battles of the war were those of out manoeuvring, trying to get in the last post before the thread could be locked. We set down our arms when it was clear that our attempts for a peaceful resolution had failed, we retreated to our enclaves and wait to this day for another thread so we can conclude the war.

And that my friends, is the story of Noah's War. I hope you enjoyed the read Wink

There's been a massive commotion made concerning "Jessica Elwood" recently. Apparently some people on 4Chan discovered "her" photos were ripped images of an internet camwhore. Everyone starts calling JE a fake and then this morning I receive a crapload of really distasteful images from her Deviantart account. Needless to say he/she/it has either been hacked or just decided the jig's up and they might as well cause a commotion before they're banned.

Jack, did you know who JE was?
