Anyone here skilled with Photoshop? If so, I have a concern.

I'm going to be making a picture with the Joker and Batman in it. I'm going for realistic shading, but just can't seem to imagine being able to shade Joker's face and make him still look natural compare to everything else, since his face is white, which cannot be shaded. What could I do to get him to look as correctly shaded as everything else?

I'm actually a newbie at Photoshop, I was hoping someone knew a trick to it. I'm gonna download the Trial since I'm poor, so I don't have forever fudging up the work on his face.

I don't Know if Photoshop has the exact same tools as GIMP2, but if it dose...loof for a tool called 'Burn'. its a Great tool for shading colors.

I can only say how do I shade in GIMP as I use only this program. I think PSP has the same layer options.

Make a layer that'll be above your sketch/picture and set it to multiply or overlay(for lighter shadows) and paint the areas that should be shaded only with shades of grey.

Then again - I'm not that great at shading Very Happy.

I've worked with both in the past, but prefer Photoshop's burn tool mostly. GIMP's burn tool behaves like I'm actually painting with a darker color with an actual paintbrush, calling for multiple clicks for when I "run out of paint". Photoshop will continue to burn to a set darkness as long as you keep dragging. I was just wondering if there was a trick to shading Joker's white face, whilst still making it look like skin, since the burn tool cannot burn white.

It should be if the first Gimp is free. Wait, there's a Gimp 2? How does it differ?

I've got GIMP 2.6 and I don't know what's the difference from the previous version. It won't hurt anyone to download it and try it for themselves. And - as I said - shading done my way can also put a shade on white surface.

It's all the same Gimp. 2.6.8 is just the latest build and is separate from whichever version you need for your particular OS.

There's also a version designed to resemble Photoshop in layout.

Just got back from installing gimp...Every time I started a file to start a picture, GIMP would stop responding immediately, then I'll get a message that causes it to X itself out.

White is simply the lightest value we can perceive. It can be shaded by using a dull light blue or a light gray. Also the burn tool doesn't work on pure white, just like the dodge tool doesn't work on pure black.

GIMP is a Photoshop imitation program similar to Paint.NET with a lot fewer features and less cool ways to manipulate and stylize one's art. On the other hand -- it's free. If you have PS access it's better. Paint Tool SAI is also very good for digital painting.
